Victrex further enhances solution provider capability following acquisition of Kleiss Gears

Thornton Cleveleys (UK): Victrex is further enhancing its ability to provide complete “integrated” solutions following its acquisition of US based polymer gears specialist Kleiss Gears. The acquisition by Victrex, the leading global PEEK-polymer based solutions provider, will help facilitate the rapid development of answers to key challenges facing customers across industries including enhanced durability and reliability, better performance, significant reductions in energy consumption and weight, and up to 50% reduction in noise, vibration and harshness (NVH), compared with metal gears...

Q: What is the rationale for the acquisition of Kleiss?

A: For Victrex this directly aligns with our own Auto programme, which aims to accelerate our customer’s development, of high precision VICTREX PEEK gears that optimise performance whilst reducing NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) and energy consumption.

The acquisition combines the complementary strengths of Victrex global commercial scale, material expertise and technical excellence, with Kleiss gear design, testing and moulding capabilities. This will enable us to deliver complete integrated gear solutions.

Q: What will Victrex offer in terms of a “complete integrated solution” for gears?

A: The complete integrated solution starts from understanding the customers’ needs and challenges, leading to a design review of the incumbent, typically metal gear system where NVH, wear and energy benefits can be clearly gained from moving from metal to PEEK design.  Then the process of design, test, optimisation, prototype manufacture and validation begins and goes through to commercial production.

This will enable our customers to bring robust solutions to the market faster and subsequently, pave the way to greater mutual success.

Q: Who should customers contact if they have an interest in PEEK gears?

A: If customers are working on a gear project and would like to learn how the new, extended capabilities can support them I encourage them to get in touch via their account manager or via the “contact us” form on
