Victrex food-grade polymers recognised with Innovation Award 2020 in China

Victrex has won a Ringier Technology Innovation Award 2020 for its portfolio of VICTREX FG™ food-grade polymers. The award was made in the ‘Plastics Industry, Raw Materials & Additives’ category, within the context of the development of the plastics industry in China. The VICTREX FG™ (Food Grade) portfolio is a selection of engineered high-performance polymers certified to major regional food contact and drinking water regulatory standards. It was created to specifically meet the most common performance criteria for food contact materials – strength, toughness and wear resistance as well as its reliable and inert characteristics. Complying with stringent regulatory requirements, the VICTREX FG materials offer design freedom to product managers, designers, engineers and plant managers.

With demands increasing around health and safety, hygiene and productivity, the pressures being faced by food and beverage manufacturing equipment companies are mounting. To provide modern material solutions that could address some of the multiple challenges, the portfolio of VICTREX FG polymers was developed. Members of the high-performance PEEK (polyetheretherketone) family, they assist manufacturers to comply with the regulatory frameworks governing such critical considerations as food contact, cleaning processes and equipment performance.

Currently, components of machines used in the food production industry require regular maintenance, often due to metal components being susceptible to corrosion. Such corrosion can create local environments that harbour contamination; stainless steel in salty environments at temperatures above 60°C for example. In addition, exposure of components to extreme temperatures and chemicals can result in deterioration and damage; contamination could also result from lubricants necessary for moving parts.

The Technology Innovation Awards, hosted annually by Ringier Industrial Media, require that each product entered must be in the forefront of the international plastics industry, be relevant to China and play a key role in assisting in taking China's plastics industry to new levels. Launched in  2006, the Awards were developed to encourage and acknowledge those individuals and companies who have introduced and developed a new idea, a new methodology, a new product or a new technology for manufacturing production efficiency, cost effectiveness, or user convenience, which might result in energy saving and more responsible clean manufacturing in China’s key pillar industries.
