New Seamless Thermoplastic Liner Can Extend Tubular Life in Demanding Downhole Environments
Western Falcon, a major manufacturer of tubular linings for downhole applications, has designed a new high-performance seamless thermoplastic liner made from VICTREX® PEEK polymer. EXTREMETUBE can extend tubular life in aggressive downhole environments versus stainless steel and other corrosion resistant alloys.
The new liner offers excellent abrasion resistance for rod wear, wireline and slickline, coiled tubing, and other common downhole tools. VICTREX PEEK-lined carbon steel tubing typically requires less installation time vs. corrosion resistant alloy tubing and eliminates the need for the use of corrosion inhibitors providing a cost savings advantage.
Western Falcon’s exclusive mechanical bonding process coupled with the remarkable properties of VICTREX PEEK polymer lining of standard oil country tubular goods (OCTG), represent a true breakthrough technology to replace expensive corrosion resistant alloy (CRA) tubulars.
VICTREX PEEK Polymer for High Temperature Performance and Low Permeability to H2S and CO2
VICTREX PEEK polymer:
- Is one of the highest strength and temperature resistant (260°C/500°F) polymers on the market today;
- maintains short-term mechanical properties at temperatures approaching its melting point of 340°C/644°F and offers the broadest range of resistance to acids, surfactants, solvents and steam;
- is highly abrasion and chemically resistant to well fluids, drilling fluids and hydrocarbon mixtures while providing extremely low permeability to gasses such as H2S and CO2.
